Mirror Lake by Vera Russell

"Mirror Lake" oil painting by Vera Russell

Traditional Paintings

I have been drawing and painting all my life and bought my first oil paints when I got a job after high school. I have studied with local and internationally know artists including Howard Wexler, Sue Buck, Bob Burridge, Daniel Greene and several others. I have exhibited, sold, and won some awards in various places since 1972. My special mentor, Bud Edmondson, has given me encouragement and critiques for years.

I paint in oils and enjoy doing landscapes in a realistic style. I love Southestern scenery, but I also like to paint places I have visited. Occasionally I incorporate people into a painting. I have a particular affinity for still life, especially featuring items that I have collected through the years. Pastel fever caught up with me a few years ago, I am entranced by the brilliance and purity of their colors. A recent challenge of capturing the transparency of crystal and liquids has brought me back to watercolors.

Recent exhibitions include EXPO New Mexico since 2002 New Mexico Arts and Crafts Fair, Encantada, MasterWorks of NM, Placitas Artists Series, Gabriel Gallery in Santa Fe, and Amapola Gallery in Old Town.
